Bins and silos are containers for storage of bulk materials. The most widely bins are used in mining, coal, chemical, petrochemical industry and in the manufacture of construction materials.
Bins are usually charged from above and discharged from below through special funnel.
By design, they are often cylindrical, square or rectangular. The heads of the bins are inclined in a funnel-shaped wall sloping by 5 ... 10% greater than the angle of repose of the stored material.
Silos unlike bins have a greater height.
Some silos are combined in the silos sections, which can be used as warehouses of finished products and as intermediate tanks for the raw material storage or semi-finished products.
Silos are loaded by mechanical and pneumatic means, and unloaded by gravity through the discharge openings in the heads. On top of the silo housing there is a platform for loading equipment, on the bottom – an area for unloading the contents into transport mechanisms.
